Christian Sacraments

Saint Theodore's Church and the Sacraments

The Catholic Church declares and celebrates seven sacraments of divine grace and encourages her faithful to receive them as they require them and as they are able. A sacrament is an effective sign of Christ's presence in this world through which we are reborn and grow in his image and come to take our place in the Eucharistic Assembly of the Christian Faithful.

Baptism and Confirmation

These are sacraments by which we are initiated in the Eucharistic Assembly of the Church.

The Sacrament of BaptismFont

The sacrament of Baptism is given to infants and children at the request of their parents and guardians as the parish priest sees right and due. At Saint Theodore's Baptism is given at a ceremony to celebrate the sacrament usually on a Sunday afternoon but, for good reason, at other times with the agreement of the Parish Priest. Please consult with the Parish Priest either on the phone or after one of the Sunday masses to make the necessary arrangements.

The Sacrament of Confirmation

In accordance with pastoral practice in the Diocese of Westminster, the Sacrament of Confirmation is given to minors of 14 years of age, who have been baptised and are accustomed to attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion, when the Bishop visits the parish for that intended purpose normally once a year.

The Sacrament of the EucharistOur Lady and the baby Jesus

In accordance with pastoral practice in the Diocese of Westminster, children who are baptised and who have reached the age of seven years are considered ready to make their first Holy Communion. The catechetical programme of preparation, both for First Holy Communion and for the Sacrament of Confirmation is devised and coordinated by a fully qualified team of catechists under the direction of the Parish Priest.

The Sacrament of the Marriage

If you are engaged or considering marriage, and would like to talk to Fr Bernard about it, contact the presbytery on Telephone Tel: 020 8979 3596.

The Sacrament of Penance

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available to be received each Saturday at the times specified in the weekly newsletter and by appointment.

The Sacrament of the Sick
